Tale 3: Death from above

The Bunker... a place where life flourishes... and by that, we mean all life.
The Bunker has many inhabitants, apart from the mere humans that walk it's grounds every day. But there are a few inhabitants that don't actually roam the floors itself, they more or less roam the ceilings. "Why the ceilings?" One could ask, well they have their reasons for it.
The ceilings in the Bunker consist of two separate layers: one of them being the concrete ceiling and the other a lowered ceiling. The second layer has been added so the many wires, tubes and who knows what else, can easily be put out of sight. This layer has easy access because it mostly consists of separate panels, which can be removed in an instant.
Once upon a time, the Knights were rewiring the Citadel to incorporate a new chandelier into the already complex lighting system. This rewiring meant that the Knights had to redistribute the power cables on top of second layer of ceiling. Because the regulations wouldn't let anyone mess with the existing lighting, incorporating this chandelier meant the Knights had to run a new power wire from one side of the Citadel to the other side. For this to happen, a total of five ceiling panels had to be removed, so the wire could be manoeuvered around the various components embedded between the two layers of ceiling. Some tell of the original lighting and a smoke detector, others speak of things so unspeakable they can not be comprehended. The Knight's DIY crew made easy work of removing the first ceiling panel and leading the power cable up in between the two layers of ceiling. But as work progressed, the DIY crew found the unspeakable.
When the second panel was being removed, something seemed to fall from atop it... A loud scream filled the room... and after that, silence...
What is it?" Someone asked, voice still trembling with fear. "A dead mouse." another joked, followed by a somewhat hysterical laughter. One of the Knights moved closer to the site to investigate. Right there on the floor, lay the remains of what once was a mouse, now just a mere shadow of it's former self. Strangely, the mouse was almost completely intact. One would expect a pile of bones and maybe some bodily fluids spilling around. But all the Knights were staring at at this point was a ball of fur and bones, no bodily fluids at all.
A small voice filled the room: "Maybe there are more..." No one knew, and the DIY crew was only just starting, at least three more ceiling plates had to be removed before they got to the other side of the Citadel.
After some quick considerations, the DIY crew decided moving on was the best thing to do. A dustpan and brush were fetched and work proceeded quickly thereafter. Some of the Knights were still in a state of shock by the events. Some even evaded the work area, to much rejoicing of the DIY crew. Work progressed at a steady rate. The obstructions found between the two layers of ceiling were evaded in most peculiar ways, but there definitely was progress.
After another two hours or so, work was finally done on the rewiring. The DIY crew celebrated with a well deserved cool drink and began work on cleaning up. Everything seemed fine, there was a lot of dust on the ground with which the vacuum made short work.
During the vacuming one of the Knights saw his chance to make another joke on the dead mouse. "Look: there's another one." He said, with a little twinkle in his eyes. Some of the Knights became angry at the person for making yet another mouse joke, whilst others laughed.
Suddenly, a scream filled the room. At the exact same spot, the joking Knight had just pointed at, lie a dead mouse. "This is bizarre." Someone said. "We must find their spawn point!" Another suggested. But those were all words, no one dared to act. The plates of the ceiling were back in place and everybody felt that it should remain that way.
If one listens closely when in the Citadel, one can hear the scraping of bones and fur coming from above. Although everybody is curious about what lies atop the lowered ceiling, no one ever dares to look afraid of the vast cemetery they may find. So be aware, young Knight, because death comes from above...
